Matthew Murphy, Esq.
Vice President Intellectual Property & General Counsel

Prior to joining Pacific Biosciences, Mr. Murphy was the Vice President of Legal Affairs at Nanosys, Inc., a nanotechnology development company, where he established a leading intellectual property presence in the field of structured semiconductor nanomaterials. Prior to Nanosys, Mr. Murphy was Vice President of Intellectual Property at Caliper Technologies (now Caliper Life Sciences, Inc.), where he successfully managed the development, implementation and enforcement of an industry leading intellectual property portfolio in microfluidic technology (named as 8th and 2nd strongest patent estate by MIT Technology Review for 2002 and 2003, respectively). Mr. Murphy began his legal career as an associate attorney in the law firm of Townsend and Townsend and Crew, LLP. He received a Juris Doctorate from the University of San Francisco, School of Law, and a B.S. in Microbiology from U.C. Davis.
